Where the Spirit of the Lord Is, There Is Freedom
Have you ever felt stuck?
Maybe it's a recurring struggle, a fear you can't seem to overcome, old wounds that still affect your thinking, or a constant pressure to be perfect. As Christians, we know Jesus came to set us free, but sometimes it can be difficult to fully walk in that freedom.
One of my favorite verses is:
"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom." — 2 Corinthians 3:17
Freedom isn't simply the absence of problems. True freedom is found in the peace and presence of Jesus. It's the ability to live without condemnation, shame, fear, guilt, or striving because we know who we are in Him.
My Journey Toward Freedom
For many years, I battled depression and struggled to experience the freedom I read about in Scripture. Healing didn't happen overnight.
As I spent time in God's Word, connected with other believers, and invited Jesus into the darkest areas of my heart, He began revealing truth that brought healing and hope. Little by little, He helped me exchange lies for truth and burdens for peace.
The more I surrendered to Him, the more freedom I experienced.
What Is Keeping You Bound?
As I created in my faith art journal, I spent time reflecting on a few questions:
Are there areas where you feel stuck?
Do you keep facing the same struggles?
Where would you like to experience freedom?
What might the Holy Spirit be trying to reveal to you?
Is there a root issue or stronghold that needs to be addressed?
These aren't always easy questions, but they can lead us to deeper healing when we bring them honestly before the Lord and allow Him to work in those sensitive areas.
Scriptures to Meditate On
Spend some time meditating on these verses and allow the Word of God to work in your heart and mind today:
Psalm 118:5
"Out of my distress I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free."
Romans 6:23
"For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Galatians 5:1
"For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery."
John 8:31-32
"If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
Romans 8:1-2
"There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus."
John 8:36
"So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."
Spend time reading these passages slowly. Ask God which words or phrases stand out to you. Write them down, pray through them, and allow His truth to sink deeply into your heart.
Freedom and Creativity
One of the things I love about faith art journaling is that it creates space to slow down and listen.
There is no pressure to perform.
No expectation of perfection.
No need to create a masterpiece.
Just paper, a few art supplies, God's Word, and time with the Holy Spirit.
As I worked on this journal page, I was reminded that freedom applies not only to our spiritual lives but also to our creativity. We don't have to be afraid of making mistakes. We can take risks, try new things, and enjoy the process.
Sometimes faith art journaling becomes a beautiful picture of what God is doing in our hearts—adding layers, bringing contrast, and revealing beauty.
A Prayer for Freedom
Jesus,
Thank You for the freedom You purchased for us on the cross.
Reveal any areas where we are still carrying burdens You never intended us to carry. Show us the lies we have believed and replace them with Your truth.
Help us stand firm in the freedom You have given us. Fill us with Your love, joy and peace as we walk closer to You.
Where Your Spirit is, there is freedom. We receive that freedom today.
Amen.
